Police say garage door remotes left in unlocked cars were used to break into two Hauppauge homes.
Detectives say the break-ins occurred this month on Dale Court and Janet Court. In both instances, residents were sleeping inside the targeted homes while the suspect or suspects gained entry to their homes.
Suffolk police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and keep garage door remotes hidden out of sight. Any secondary entrances to homes from inside garages should also be kept locked.
Police are urging anyone who sees a suspicious person to call 631-852-COPS.
