A fuel spill caused heavy traffic eastbound on the Long Island Expressway early Monday, police say.
The eastbound LIE was temporarily closed at Exit 53 after nearly 55 gallons of fuel leaked onto the roadway.
Police say a car sideswiped a utility truck and the fuel tank on the truck ruptured.
The Department of Environmental Conservation were on the scene to clean the spill, which has since been contained.
