Police say a driver was shot on the Long Island Expressway in Melville late Monday night.

Authorities say the man was struck in the leg by a bullet believed to have been fired from another car on the westbound side between Route 110 and Round Swamp Road around 11:30 p.m.

The wounded man has only been identified a 28-year-old from upstate Peekskill and was treated at the hospital.

Detectives believe the victim was targeted and want anyone with information into the shooting to give them a call.
