A police pursuit of a vehicle Thursday morning ended in a four-car crash in Medford that has left one person dead.
Police say John Licausi, of Riverhead, was trying to sell stolen equipment to a landscaper when the landscaper called 911. Police arrived at the scene, but Licausi drove away before he could be arrested.
Authorities say police followed Licausi and as a result, Licausi ran a red light and crashed into three cars at the intersection of Horse Block and Old Medford roads. Scott Foster, of Manorville and the driver of one of the cars, was killed when his vehicle was sent careening into the woods and into a tree. A police officer and the driver of another car suffered non-life threatening injuries, police say.
Witnesses who saw the crash describe it as an explosion and say they?ll never forget the image.
