Police say a patient at a Bethpage hospital was arrested after injuring two employees before stealing a truck and trying to flee.
Police say 22-year-old Lonnie Pernell, from Amityville, was at St. Joseph’s Hospital getting medical attention when he pushed the female employee to the ground. A second male employee that was trying to help was then allegedly tackled by Pernell.
That’s when police say he took off and ran into the construction site, jumped inside an idling truck and hit another truck on the property.
A construction worker tried to stop Parnell, along with a police officer and AMT, when he allegedly attacked them as well. They finally were able to subdue him before any more damage was done.
The female employee suffered injuries to her hands and face and the male hospital employee suffered a broken hand.
Pernell is facing a slew of charges, including assault and grand larceny. Officials say he will be arraigned when “medically practical.”
