Police say they arrested a suspect accused of shooting a 15-year-old boy at Ellsworth Allen Park in Farmingdale.
Terrance Alston, 24, faced a judge Tuesday on charges of attempted murder and criminal use of a firearm.
Prosecutors say Alston shot the teen from less than 10 feet away at around 5:45 p.m. Saturday.
The victim suffered a shattered pelvis and needed emergency surgery to save his life.
Authorities say Alston is a member of the Bloods street gang and was on probation for a separate gun charge.
Alston was shot in the head himself in 2019.
In the courtroom, the defendant was scolded by Judge Ari Schulman, who said, “I’m trying to imagine a more depraved act than bringing a gun to a park.”
The judge set bail at $300,000 cash, which was more than prosecutors had requested.
Alston pleaded not guilty. He will be back in court Jan. 18.
