A home security video captured the arrest of a 20-year-old man in connection to a shooting that injured a 71-year-old man in Hempstead.
Police say a verbal dispute at a Jackson Street home Tuesday turned violent when Cleefton Balan fired several shots.
The man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Balan was arrested in Freeport after being on the run for several days.
Around the time of Balan's arrest, Nassau police were responding to a patrol car that lost control and slammed into a tree. Officials say two officers in the car were seriously injured.
Nassau Police Union president James McDermott said in a statement to News 12, "This is another reminder of the dangers faced by the Nassau Police each and every time they report for duty."
