Officials say two people were injured early this morning when a car crashed into a utility pole in West Islip, and now police are searching for the driver who fled the scene.

Police say they received a call reporting the accident just after 2 a.m. The accident happened at the corner of Hawley Avenue and Union Boulevard, where the car crashed into a utility pole.

The driver fled, leaving two injured passengers in the car, and police are currently looking for him.

The family of one of the passengers, 22-year-old Megan Pardue, tells News 12 Long Island that she broke her neck, has a collapsed lung and has been in and out of surgery.

Police say the other was treated at the scene with injuries that were not life-threatening.
