Police are searching for a suspect who killed an 18-year-old man and left three others injured in a suspected drive-by shooting in Hempstead Saturday night.
The incident happened near Terrace Avenue just after 10 p.m.
"We believe that someone from a car fired into the crowd," said Hempstead Police Chief Paul Johnson.
Police say the 18-year-old Jaden Johnson was taken to the hospital for his injuries and died less than an hour after the shooting.
The other three victims, ages 23 to 35, were shot in the leg, ankle and thigh. They are expected to recover.
No arrests have been made.
On Sunday, a sea of orange and white balloons lined Terrace Avenue. Candles and flowers marked the spot where Johnson was shot and killed. But the kind sentiment, Yvonne Bettis said, just won't bring her grandson back.
"I am numb is where I am. I'm numb. I really am," Bettis said.
Family members said Johnson had no enemies and never got into any trouble.
"He was a happy kid he was a happy kid," Bettis said. "Never got in trouble, he was just a happy kid."
"He didn't deserve this. We just want justice to be served," said his aunt, Tiffany Greene.
Something that truly frustrates family members is that they said somebody knows something and they just hope that person comes forward and talk with police.
"I am very angry. I'm angry that someone would do that to someone's child and everybody thinks it's OK, apparently, because no one is speaking up," Bettis said.
Hempstead police said extra officers in marked and unmarked police cars will be on patrol in the area with the hope to find the shooter and prevent any more violence.
Police are asking anyone with information to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911.
