Temperatures are expected to plummet on Long Island as what's known as a polar vortex chills the United States.

The huge arctic air mass is heading from Canada to the U.S. and bringing with it the coldest temperatures in decades.

The dangerous cold has already hit the Midwest, where it was 15 below in Minneapolis.

Temperatures will fall to around 10 degrees by Tuesday morning. Wind chills will be as low as negative 15.
