A new medical facility is coming to the city of Long Beach.
South Nassau Communities Hospital unveiled plans Wednesday to build and operate a medical arts pavilion in the city.
The new medical pavilion will be built across from the now-empty Long Beach Hospital that was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy. Although Long Beach still won't have a hospital, the pavilion will include a fully functioning emergency room.
South Nassau opened an urgent care facility in Nassau last year, which plans to add an emergency room over the summer. It will serve the community until a permanent emergency room is up and running at the pavilion.
Construction of the new facility is expected to take 18 months. Hospital officials hope to have it open by the end of next year or early 2017.
