Former Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan was sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
Congressman Ryan (D) was elected on Aug. 23 to fill the remainder of now Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado’s term in New York’s 19th District.
In his first address to the House, Congressman Ryan spoke about the honor of representing the community that raised him and his desire to restore faith in government amid ongoing threats to freedom and democracy.  “This is a moment of immense consequence and challenge for our country — I believe it is truly an all-hands-on-deck moment for our democracy,” said Ryan. “And I pledge that I will fight every single day — with every ounce of my being — to deliver for the people of New York’s 19th District, and to renew trust and faith in our great nation.”
Ryan, a fifth-generation Ulster County native, decorated combat veteran, and small business owner, was joined at the swearing in ceremony by his wife, Rebecca, and his two young children, Theo and Cameron.
Ryan also announced the opening of offices for the residents of New York’s 19th District.
