With all 18 seats in the Suffolk County Legislature up for grabs this Election Day, the outcome of this year's election will determine which party is in control.

It's been nine years since Republicans outnumbered Democrats in the legislature. Currently, there's 10 Democrats, two minor party members who side with Democrats, five Republicans and one vacancy.

In three districts, no incumbent is seeking re-election, providing the opportunity for new faces in the legislature.

Democrats say they're confident they will retain control. However, Republican party Chairman John Jay LaValle says a Republican-led legislature is needed to serve as a balance to Democratic County Executive Steve Ballone.
