Long Island soldiers trying to make ends meet after returning home from war will have a little extra help.
The Hero Hunger Project, a partnership program between Long Island Cares, Congressman Steve Israel (D-Huntington), United Way of Long Island and the Northport Veteran?s Medical Center, will aim to help veterans in need. Many vets say they return home to a new battle, struggling to pay overdue bills and provide for their families.
The project will not only help soldiers who have returned home, but also the families of soldiers presently serving overseas.
