As Oyster Bay's annual celebration of all things oyster gets underway this weekend, some residents say they're fed up with the congestion the event brings to their roadways.
Oyster Festival weekend is expected to bring about 200,000 visitors from all over, along with road closures and extra vehicles that are scoping out parking spots. Homeowners in the area say getting around for typical Saturday outings of their own can turn into a total nightmare.
On Saturday morning, the annual TOBAY Supervisor's 5K Run also took place on the streets of Oyster Bay, bringing even more road closures to an already busy weekend.
Even though it's just one weekend of congestion headaches, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto says the town looks at possible adjustments each year. However, he says the positives of the Oyster Festival far outweigh the negatives.
