A swim that was scheduled this morning for more than 100 swimmers to cross the Great South Bay has been canceled for the year due to fog.
The swim was part of the annual Maggie Fischer Memorial Cross Bay Swim.
The 5.5-mile race would have started at the Fire Island Lighthouse and ended at Gilbert Park in Bay Shore.
The race is named in memory of Maggie Fisher.
The 17-year-old from Brightwaters signed up to compete in 1999 but died in a car crash just days before the race.
All the money raised for the race goes toward a scholarship for a St. Anthony’s High School senior and the Hospice Children Bereavement Fund.
