On Sept. 11 2001, Carol Gies' husband Ronnie answered the fireman's call and made the ultimate sacrifice like 343 FDNY members did.  Exactly 20 years later and Carol Gies says there is still always pain.
He was remembered Saturday afternoon at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury, as were all those who died that dark day.
Bishop John O'Barres led a rare outdoor Mass at the cemetery's September 11th memorial. More than 60 people are interred there.
The names of more than 500 people are inscribed on the memorial, and 100 were just recently added after dying from 9/11-related illnesses.
Bishop Barres spent a moment with Carol Gies today, where he shared her pain and said a special prayer.
Gies says this ceremony meant a lot today and that Ronnie is never out of her mind.
Even through the ceremony marked the 20th anniversary of Sept. 11,  officials and attendees say it's important to look forward and not just back.
