One person was killed and another seriously injured in two separate Fourth of July firework incidents in Suffolk County, according to Suffolk County police.

A 37-year-old Central Islip man died after lighting a firework during a backyard celebration on Saturday night. Police said Gabriel Ruiz-Urresto was at a party at his home on East Sycamore St. when he lit a firework that exploded and struck him in the head.

Ruiz-Urresto was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a separate incident, a 45-year-old Fort Salonga man was seriously injured during a Fourth of July celebration at Callahan's Beach.

Police said Jerry DiMucci was lighting a firework at the beach around 9 p.m. when it struck him in the face.

He was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are asking anyone with information about either incident to contact detectives.
