One dead, two hurt after fire rips through Morris Heights apartment building

A fire broke out on the top floor of a Morris Heights apartment building early Saturday, leaving one person dead and two others injured.

The 911 call came in around 1 a.m. at 226 W. Tremont Ave., between Phelan Place and Sedgwick Avenue.

Flames spread to an adjoining apartment, triggering a second alarm at approximately 1:22 a.m.

A total of 46 units and 141 fire and EMS personnel responded.

Two people suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital, according to FDNY.

A third person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire was placed under control at 2:08 a.m.

Fire marshals are working to determine the cause.
