A Levittown man is charged with running down a woman while leading police on a chase through Nassau County - and police say he's been involved in a similar incident before.
Hempstead police say David Safran, 54, was speeding in a silver Porsche through the village of Hempstead around 4 p.m. Thursday. Police say they pursued Safran as he drove through the Nassau County Social Services complex, where he jumped a curb and struck an unidentified female pedestrian in her 50s. Police say she is suffering from a minor leg injury and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Safran was apprehended in Uniondale. He is facing multiple charges, including assault, reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident with injury.
Police say Safran was arrested in October 2016 after causing another police pursuit through the village of Hempstead. They say Safran hit another vehicle in that pursuit, and two people in the other car sustained injuries.
Safran is expected to be arraigned Saturday at the hospital where he is being held.
