Officials say two horses have died in a 24-hour period following the Belmont Stakes.
A spokesperson for the New York Racing Association says Mashnee Girl and Excursionniste suffered catastrophic leg injuries and had to be euthanized due to the severity of those injuries.
The spokesperson also says the association, the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority and the New York State Gaming Commission will be reviewing circumstances around the incident.
This comes after Churchill Downs, the home of the Kentucky Derby, suspended racing earlier this month after 12 horses died there.
At Belmont Park, there have been four deaths since the spring-summer meet began last month.
