83-year-old woman dies, husband critically injured in Port Jefferson Station fire

Police say a woman is dead and her husband is in critical condition following a fire at a Port Jefferson Station home.
The fire happened around 7 p.m. Sunday on Superior Street.
Officials say John Davis, 76, was able to escape the fire and was taken to the hospital.  Davis’ wife, Catherine, 83, died in the fire.
An investigation is underway, but officials believe the cause of the fire is non-criminal.
Neighbor Greg Winberry said the fire was intense.
"I saw the house was engulfed in fire, the old gentleman was laying on the front lawn unresponsive. No one was really helping him because no first responders were here yet," said Winberry.
Crews at the scene tell News 12 they believe it was an electrical fire.
