Two Nassau County police officers saved a woman trapped in her car when part of a tree and wires fell on it in North Bellmore.
While Denise Giammarino, of North Bellmore, was driving down Martin Avenue Tuesday, a combination of rain and wind snapped a tree in half, sending a tangle of branches and live wires on top of her car.
She says that she initially called 911, but hung up because she was so frazzled. A resident down the street eventually called for help.
Tom Hansen says he heard popping noises from the wires and tried to keep Giammarino calm until help arrived. Police officers Ronald Curaba and Chris Lettieri arrived at the scene minutes later.
The officers moved branches and made a clear path for Giammarino to escape.
She says she's thankful for their help.
