Police say a domestic incident in Central Islip Saturday became a barricade situation, resulting in the stabbing of an emergency service officer.
Officers responded to a home on Oakwood Street where they learned that an armed individual was inside.
Police made an entry into the home where the perpetrator, who has not yet been identified, stabbed an emergency service officer in the face.
Police say the perpetrator was then shot in the stomach area and taken into custody.
The officer was taken to Stony Brook Medical Center with serious injuries to his face. The injuries are not considered to be life threatening.
The perpetrator was taken to Southside Hospital where he is in critical, but stable condition.
Police say the person in custody was not the homeowner. They say the homeowner had an order of protection against the perpetrator.
