A Huntington Station man was arrested Thanksgiving night after burglarizing a home in Cold Spring Harbor.
Police say Jeffrey Rice, 45, entered an unlocked side door of the home on Fox Hunt Lane around 11 p.m. They say he picked up a kitchen knife, then entered a room occupied by a 7-year-old girl and her 85-year-old aunt.
Authorities say Rice assaulted the woman, and was then confronted by the homeowners upon exiting the room.
Police say the male homeowner and his brothers were able to subdue Rice outside the home until police arrived.
Rice was charged with burglary in the first degree. He is being held on $100,000 bail.
The 85-year-old woman was transported to Huntington Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say this was a random attack, and that Rice did not know the family.
