Gov. Andrew Cuomo, former Gov. George Pataki, and Nassau and Suffolk County executives were in Old Westbury today to hear the final recommendations of the New York State Tax Relief Commission report.

The report recommends that New York state freeze property taxes for two years for homeowners in areas where they have abided by the 2 percent property tax cap.

However, there is a catch for year two. According to the report, the tax freeze would only apply to homeowners in jurisdictions that are making real efforts to save money by consolidating or sharing services.

Cuomo says this would be an incentive for the locations to find ways to cooperate.

The report has to be sent to the state Legislature for approval, but it is not clear if or when that will happen.
