One of New York?s bravest who was injured at the Deutsche Bank building in Manhattan had a happy homecoming in Bay Shore Saturday.
Firefighter William Corbetis was badly injured a week and a half ago when equipment plummeted from the building and landed on him and another firefighter. Corbetis had to have his spleen removed and sustained other injuries. The other firefighter was released from the hospital soon after the incident.
The FDNY has been stationed at the building since two firefighters were killed in a fire in mid-August. There is an ongoing investigation into conditions at that building, which was set for demolition.
Corbetis says he doesn't remember the accident, he just remembers waking up in the hospital. Now that he's home he has a lot of physical therapy ahead and his friends say they're expecting him to fully recover.
