A 49-year-old man was shot in the stomach and died early Saturday morning in Morris Park, according to police.
Authorities say shots rang out around 2 a.m. on Fowler Avenue. The victim, who died at a hospital, was identified as Trevor Hughes.
No arrests have been made.
Alexander Colon, a friend of the victim for five years, said he was “heartbroken” after hearing about Hughes.
“I can't believe that this has happened,” he said.
A 20-year resident of Morris Park said a shooting is unheard of in this neighborhood.
"I'm just shocked because short of the firecrackers on the Fourth of July, nothing except the bird chirping. So it's tragic," said William Smith.
