A NYPD detective from Long Island is accused of being drunk when he accidentally shot his own partner in the wrist.
According to police, Detective Jay Poggi and his partner were driving to an investigation in Queens when he accidentally fired his gun. Cops say Poggi then drove his partner to the hospital, but court papers show his blood alcohol level was .113 -- the legal limit is .08.
Poggi is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He's been suspended without pay.
His partner is expected to be OK.
