Thousands of Long Islanders recovering from Hurricane Sandy are just now getting their recovery aid with the help of a federal program.

The program, called New York Rising, provides critical storm relief to reeling families. The funding was secured by Sen. Chuck Schumer, who says anyone who has already received insurance or FEMA money can still apply.

A Lindenhurst man says he and his wife applied for the funding, and were notified this week that they'll receive $110,000 to rebuild their home. Likewise, a Babylon family will get $100,000 for the same purpose.

"We were made whole by this program, and I did not think this was going to happen," says Cary Angiulo, of Babylon.
