An Administration for Children?s Services (ACS) official says the agency is in over its head in trying to keep up with a record number of open cases in the Bronx.
According to the ACS, the number of open child abuse and neglect cases is between 14,000 and 15,000, which is 40 percent higher than last year. The agency says there are not enough caseworkers to keep individual cases down.
The ACS commissioner says changes for the agency are on the way. He says ACS is pushing to hire more qualified workers and testing new technology to assist in investigations. The ACS is also investing into more resources to improve the morale of workers.
