Norwalk has received a state grant to prevent flooding.

Officials say the $5 million dollar will be used to separate the combined sanitary and storm system into a separate storm draining infrastructure in the Heather Lane and Lockwood Lane neighborhood.

"Some of the storm drainage is connected to the sewer lines. When there is a lot of rain, what happens is we over flow our sewer system and that can cause some backup. So that's why sometimes we saw some sewage back up in some of the house," says Vanessa Valadares, Norwalk's chief of operations and public works.

Officials tell News 12 they are planning on breaking ground on the project in late spring of 2024.
