Northwell Health showed off its new "Davinci" robot Thursday.
“Davinci” helped a surgeon perform breast reconstruction surgery on a patient who had undergone a double mastectomy.
The robot conducts the surgery using the patient’s stomach tissue instead of implants.
Doctors say the process reduces the rate of infection and speeds recovery, while doing no damage to the abdominal wall.
"It's the first surgery of its kind in Long Island and for women out there who are listening. It’s important to understand this is a team and our patients inspire us a much as science and innovation,” says Dr. Neil Tanna.
The patient returned home pain-free - just two days after her operation.
