Northport 15-year-old Sutton Strasser is headed to Kentucky where she will compete in a prestigious gymnastics competition.
Sutton is only one of 44 athletes competing in the Nastia Liukin Cup. In her age group, there are just 22 athletes. She is the only competitor from New York.
Sutton’s fellow gymnasts gave her a big sendoff on Thursday ahead of this weekend’s competition. Strasser told News 12 she’s been working “really hard” for this and is “so excited.” She said she’s been doing gymnastics since she was just over a year old when she went to a Mommy and Me class with her mom and "just never stopped.”
Strasser trains at Infiniti Elite Gymnastics in Syosset five days a week. Owner and head coach Tammy Marshall said this is “so special” and that they all wanted to wish Sutton good luck.
"Proud is an understatement," said Jessica Eberhardt, Sutton's mom.
The competition is on Sunday in Louisville.
