Fernando Mejia was just finishing up his morning deliveries last Thursday in Port Washington when witnesses say they saw the 40-year-old man being taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

His co-workers and people who frequent Schmear Bagel Shop & Cafe, where he worked for years, say he's a hard worker and well-liked in the community.

Those who have spoken with Mejia say the issue stems from a warrant related to a 20-year-old visa.

Mejia's father says that his son has been moved to an ICE detention facility in New Jersey.

News 12 asked ICE for further details on this case but has not yet heard back.
