Nonprofits say they are facing an uphill battle, as the coronavirus pandemic has forced the cancellation of many fundraisers.
Paul Pachter, who is the head of the Long Island Cares Food Bank, says the nonprofit has to make up donation dollars that would have come from fundraising events.
Bob Policastro, who runs a nonprofit called Angela's House, which provides health care for medically fragile children, says losing fundraising dollars from canceled events is heartbreaking.
Historic sites have also fallen victim to the pandemic. The Huntington Lighthouse, which holds a festival to keep the light on, has been canceled.
In Setauket, fundraising dollars that allow the Three Village Historical Society to keep Long Island's history alive by events such as Culper Spy Day have come to a halt.
The nonprofits tell News 12 they have come up with creative ways to raise funds like online tours, historic books and selling donated items.
