Just a month after a deadly fire at Medford’s Happy Cat Sanctuary, a legal battle is underway for control of the property.

The nonprofit that operated the cat shelter is suing the daughter of its founder. The sanctuary's owner, Chris Arsenault, died in last month's fire, along with more than 100 cats under his care. His daughter, Kristen, says she's in charge of his trust.

The nonprofit, Happy Cat Inc., says the trust directs that his assets, including the property, in the event of his death.

Happy Cat Inc. is asking a judge to order Kristen Arsenault to turn over the assets.
