A Democrat is getting ready to take the reins of power in Islip Town for the first time in 40 years.
Phil Nolan was elected to be the next town supervisor with 50 percent of the vote. The supervisor-elect says he's not worried about being the only Democrat among five town board members, claiming he?s been the minority before.
Republican Pamela Green had 43 percent of the vote and Independent candidate Thomas Barraga captured 7 percent.
The job of town supervisor was last held by Republican Peter McGowan who resigned in March and then pleaded guilty to misusing his campaign funds.
