Suffolk lawmakers couldn't muster the votes to override a veto from County Executive Steve Bellone of 28 jobs in the 2020 budget, according to Newsday.
County legislators held a special meeting Saturday to try to restore funding to fill over two dozen full-time positions.
They fell one vote short of overriding the veto. The head of the county's largest labor union told Newsday that Bellone has committed to getting the jobs filled, despite the veto.
