According to a News 12/Hofstra poll, more Long Island residents are concerned about the possibility of a major terrorist attack in the United States.

Long Islanders were asked "Compared to a year ago, are you personally more or less concerned about the possibility of another major terrorist attack in the United States?"

A total of 65 percent said they were more concerned while only 11 percent said they were less concerned.

Homeland Security expert Michael Balboni says it's understandable for Long Islanders who lived through Sept. 11 to be on alert about terrorism, especially with the ongoing conflict with Islamic State militants.

"We live in an age of risk. We live in an age of an asymmetrical, non-state actor threat. So, it's about knowing where you are, having situational awareness," said Balboni.
