Police officers and firefighters responding to a 911 call discovered the body of a newborn in Glen Head.
The Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad's commanding officer says police and the Glenwood Fire Department responded to a home on Walnut Street around 8:20 a.m. Thursday. The initial call had requested medical assistance.
A 20-year-old woman who police say was bleeding extensively was taken to the hospital. When she was treated at the hospital, it was discovered that she had just given birth.
Police have not disclosed where on the property the child's body was found, or whether it was born alive, stillborn or a miscarriage, citing the ongoing investigation and a pending autopsy.
Authorities say the woman and her family are cooperating with police.
