? The New York City Council has given its stamp of approval to plans for a new Yankee stadium in the Bronx.

The council voted 45-2 Wednesday to allow the team to use two public parks to build the stadium on. The $800 million plan includes new parks and a bigger stadium near the old one. Many City Council members said the new stadium will be a positive project for current and future generations. However, critics maintain construction will cause pollution and some residents fear park lands will not be replaced.

The Yankees cleared several major hurdles before Wednesday?s victory, including a hearing before the City Council Land Use Committee. A finance committee is scheduled to vote April 10 on whether to issue tax-exempt bonds to the team for construction.
