There are new accusations against a doggie day care in Syosset where a worker was caught on video kicking a dog.
Store surveillance video shows a dog being kicked by an employee of Dog & Pooch in Syosset. Owner Gideon Hazan says he fired the employee in the video, a manager named Joe, as soon as he learned about it.
On Wednesday, News 12 spoke with the woman who recorded the video from a public feed provided by the store. She also showed a second part, in which the same employee is seen dragging the dog across the floor.
That woman is now a former employee and asked News 12 to conceal her identity, saying she is afraid of Joe. She says she warned the the owner in September that Joe was being aggressive with the dogs, but the owner did nothing.
News 12 asked Hazan about his former employee's accusation. He was adamant that no employee came forward with such allegations.
The Nassau County District Attorney's Office has now launched an investigation into the alleged abuse. Hazan says he's fully cooperating and has been doing "damage control" to try to save his business, even putting a sign on the front door that says, "Joe No Longer Here!" But Hazan says he's still fielding phone calls and visits from people concerned about animals.
Hazan says despite the "bad publicity," he's glad he put the cameras in his store because his ultimate goal is to protect dogs.
The former manager has not been charged.
