A New Hyde Park pet store helped a combat veteran who lost her emotional support dog in a hit-and-run.
Army veteran Phoebe Ervin, of New Hyde Park, is over the moon in love with her new dog, a Pomeranian named Pancake.
Ervin received Pancake as a gift from the Left Paw Pet Store after her emotional support dog, Pommie, was killed in May.
Ervin called the Left Paw Pet Store to tell owner Sarah Greenstein the tragic news because this was where she bought Pommie four years ago.
Greenstein immediately searched for a new dog for Ervin to help with her post-traumatic stress disorder.
She found the perfect dog to give to Ervin as a thank you for her years of military service.
"Phoebe is special. She has put her life on the line for us. She has just embodied everything that represents our country," Greenstein says.
Ervin is grateful.
"This is my birthday present coming up, this is my Christmas present, this is my everything right here. I’m just happy," she said.
