The Village of New Hyde Park is proposing legislation to classify vape shops as "adult use."
The new law would restrict where vape shops can operate. It would also require that vape shops and hookah bars be at least 800 feet from a school, church, park or playground.
Al Ala, the co-owner of Smoke Stax in New Hyde Park, says while he feels the law is well-intentioned, he also thinks it's unfair.
"Any youngsters, we strictly don't tolerate under the age of 19," he says.
Local leaders initially planned to have a public meeting at the Village Hall Tuesday evening. The meeting has been rescheduled for April 19 at 7:30 p.m.
