New coronavirus cases are slowly creeping up again across New York.
The coronavirus positivity rate in New York on Sunday rose to 0.76% amid concerns of the delta variant of the virus, according to the New York State Department of Health.
The positivity rate on Long Island has increased to 0.52% with 31 new cases in Nassau County and 25 new cases in Suffolk County.
One person also died in Suffolk County.
Some residents say they expected a rise in cases, while others like Plainview resident Alan Ehlerman find the trend scary.
"Very scary, I'm not happy about it and it's definitely cause for concern," Ehlerman says. "And of course, I'm fully vaccinated because I want to protect my family. And, I think it's very important. We've got to take it seriously."
Gov. Andrew Cuomo is urging more people to get vaccinated, and says that is the best way to continue fighting back against the coronavirus.
Scientists say the delta strain does not appear to cause loss of smell and causes less gastrointestinal symptoms than the original virus.
However, extreme fatigue is a common symptom of the new variant.
