A bill being sponsored by two U.S. senators would ask census participants to state whether they are in the country illegally.
The Census Bureau says fewer people would be tallied in places such as Long Island if the bill were passed. Farmingville resident Sue Grant says she supports the bill.
"I don't want to have people who come here illegally having a voice in my government and being able to determine future government," Grant says.
Immigrant advocate Luis Valenzuela says passing the bill would be a mistake by the federal government.
"It makes absolutely no sense. Count them [and] help them become more productive citizens," Valenzuela says.
