The Nassau County Office of Consumer Affairs cracked down on more than a dozen convenience stores in the past month for illegally positioning and distributing pornographic material.
Three people were arrested and 14 others ticketed in the operation. Fourteen stores were raided, including an April 18 bust at the Late Night Convenience Store in Valley Stream. A Late Night clerk was among those arrested.
The display of pornographic magazines at some stores forced kids to walk by the material on their way to get a soda, Consumer Affairs Commissioner Roger Bogsted said.
In another instance, Bogsted said a 15-year-old admitted his age to a clerk and was sold a pornographic magazine anyway. It is illegal to sell the material to minors.
