Nassau and Suffolk police showed off the dangers of illegal fireworks in Old Bethpage Thursday.
Cops say they will be enforcing a zero-tolerance policy on illegal fireworks as the Fourth of July holiday weekend approaches. They say all fireworks, including seemingly harmless sparklers, are illegal in New York. However, they say their attention will be focused on big fireworks.
Officials warn fireworks do not necessarily need a flame to explode. They say a fall the ground, heat or friction could create a spark and ignite the even small fireworks. Police add that anyone caught transporting fireworks on Long Island could have his or her car seized.
