Nassau County is spraying for mosquitoes Wednesday evening, just as health officials announced a third possible death in the county from West Nile virus.
According to county officials, a 90-year-old Mineola man had symptoms of the disease before he died. County health officials are now looking into a total of 11 human cases of the virus this year. If the death is confirmed to be from West Nile, it would be the most deaths from the disease in the county in nearly 10 years.
The pesticide Scourge is being sprayed in the area south of the LIE, north of the Southern State Parkway, west of the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway and east of Queens. Pregnant women, children and older people should stay inside during the spraying and for up to 30 minutes afterward. Nassau Department of Health
